Ozone is a gas that we produce at our practice ourselves and use as an addition. We use it in support, to reduce germs at a particular place in the mouth. It does not replace a standard treatment.
What ozone is
Ozone is a special form of oxygen. We produce it with a small device directly here at the practice. It is made from the oxygen in the air and is used straight away. It is not stored, and it is not taken internally.
When we use ozone
We use ozone for example with inflamed gums, after a minor procedure or with early decay. The aim is to reduce the number of germs at that place. Whether that makes sense in your case is something we look at and discuss with you beforehand.
How the application runs
The application takes only a short time. We guide the gas to the affected place through a small tip, without touching it. Many patients find it unremarkable. You do not need to prepare anything for it, and afterwards you can leave as after any other appointment.
An addition, not a replacement
Ozone does not take the place of a filling, a root canal treatment or a gum treatment. We carry out these treatments as usual. Ozone comes in addition only, when we consider it sensible in an individual case.
Costs and advice
The use of ozone is an additional service. As a rule the statutory health insurer does not cover it. We tell you beforehand what to expect. We are glad to answer questions about it calmly at your next appointment.
