All About Dental Implants

If a whole tooth is missing, an implant is a particularly durable option for closing the gap. An implant is an artificial root, usually made of well tolerated titanium, which is anchored in the jawbone. On top of it we then place a firm, natural looking tooth, a crown.

The advantage over other solutions

Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require healthy neighbouring teeth to be ground down. Your own tooth substance therefore stays untouched. The implant stands on its own, transfers the chewing forces into the bone like a natural tooth and in this way helps to prevent the jawbone from receding.

How a treatment proceeds

It begins with careful planning. Using modern X-ray images we check whether there is enough bone and where the implant sits best. The procedure itself is carried out under local anaesthetic, so that it involves minimal discomfort for you.

After it has been placed, the implant needs some weeks to fuse firmly with the bone. We then make the final crown, which matches your remaining teeth in colour and in shape. The result sits firmly, feels like a tooth of your own and can last many years with good care.

When there is not enough bone

If there is too little bone, we build it up again beforehand in a targeted way. For this we can use your own tooth material that is no longer needed, or a synthetic build up material. Treatment with your own blood (PRF) also supports the healing. This creates a load bearing foundation for your implant.

We are happy to advise you calmly on whether an implant is the right choice for you, and to accompany you from the planning through to the finished crown.
